SUPPLEMENTAL PRIVACY POLICY

Definitions

"Personal Data" is personal and/or confidential information that relates to you and your account, policy, contract or affiliation with National Life Group.

"Communications" are any non-confidential and non-proprietary communications information, except for Personal Data, that you transmit to the Site by electronic mail or otherwise, including data, questions, comments and/or suggestions.

"Personal Information" is any Communication where you knowingly enter your personal information such as your name, address, social security number, or telephone number, including personal information provided through the Portal.

"Non-Personal Information" is any Communication derived from your connection to the Site, such as your Internet browser, domain name and referrer link.

All Communications, except for Personal Data and Personal Information, will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary, will become the property of National Life Group and may be used for the purposes described herein.

What Information Is Collected

In general, you can visit the Site while remaining anonymous by not providing any Personal Information. In some cases, Non-Personal Information may be automatically collected, such as your Internet Browser, computer operating system, domain name of your Internet service provider and/or the website from which you linked to our Site,is automatically collected and sent to National Life Group and Google Analytics. We will use this information as aggregate data to help us maintain and administer the Site and Portal, such as to determine the number of visitors, analyze trends and broad demographic data, ensure the Site and Portal working properly, and help us make the Site and Portal more useful. Personal Information about you (e.g., your name, address, telephone number, social security number, and/or email address) will not be collected unless you provide it to us voluntarily through the Portal or otherwise. For example, National Life Group retains e-mail addresses of visitors who log into the Portal, respond to the Site's e-mail forms, online forms, registration forms and surveys and contest entries. National Life Group also retains information about the frequency of Site visits, length of time of the visit and aggregate information on which Site page visitors access.

National Life Group sends Internet visitors "Cookies." A Cookie is a small data file sent by the Site to your browser, which may then be stored on your hard drive. National Life Group's Cookie enables the Site to recognize you if you have a National Life Group account or have utilized certain Site features. In addition, the Cookie may recall information so that you do not have to re-submit it, and also automatically updates Site information. If available, you may program your browser software to notify you of attempts to send cookies and/or you may decline or delete them. Please note that you must have cookies enabled in your browser software to be able to log in to the website.  When you perform a search with National Life Group's search engine, National Life Group does not record information identifying you or linking you to the search performed. As necessary to provide service, National Life Group does record limited information for every search request and uses that information only to solve technical problems with the Site, to calculate overall usage statistics and to improve the structure and content of the Site.

Except as described below with respect to the Portal, National Life Group will primarily use Communications to respond to your request(s). National Life Group may use Personal Information for feedback purposes, marketing and promotional purposes and for a statistical analysis of users' behavior. Furthermore, National Life Group retains the right to use ideas, concepts, know-how or techniques contained in any Communications you send to the Site for any purpose whatsoever, including, but not limited to, developing and marketing products using such information. Non-Personal Information may be aggregated for internal review and used to improve the Site's content and its structure. This information will be discarded.

National Life Group does not distribute Personal Data, Personal Information or Communications to unaffiliated third parties unless such third parties are under contract with National Life Group for administrative support and services. National Life Group will not voluntarily share, rent, sell or otherwise disclose information obtained from visitors to the Site (whether Personal Data, Personal Information or Communications) to unaffiliated third parties, unless National Life Group has contracted with such third parties to provide administrative support and services. In such an event, we will contractually require these service providers to protect such information and provide the same level of confidentiality that National Life Group provides.

Do not track” (DNT) standards have still not been finalized by the Internet standards setting organization, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). As such, we do not use DNT signals.

CUSTOMER PORTAL

The terms of use outlined in this Policy apply to accessing information relating to your life insurance policy(ies) and/or annuity contract(s) electronically and processing transactions submitted electronically (collectively, the "Service") only and do not address the rules for obtaining information or making transactions by any other means. The Service includes the National Life Group customer Portal and National Life Group web application.

As a customer, you will represent, on a continuing basis, that you are authorized to access any accounts you create on the Portal ("Accounts") for which you have obtained a User ID and Password from National Life Group. Because of the importance of safeguarding your Accounts, National Life Group requests that you not share your User ID and/or Password with any other individuals. However, if you do choose to share your User ID and Password with other individuals, National Life Group or any party contracting with National Life Group will not be responsible for damages or loss resulting from any breach of security caused by a failure to maintain the confidentiality of your User ID and Password.

Policy and/or contract values accessed via the Service is for informational purposes only and is not the official record of such values. Your statement or other National Life Group correspondence is your official record of policy and/or contract values. Values provided through the Service are generally updated as of the prior business day's close of business. This information is subject to adjustment and correction

Access to your Account or the Service may be blocked if National Life Group reasonably believes your access codes have been/may have been obtained or are being used/may be used by an unauthorized person(s).

Any transaction(s) entered by an individual using your User ID and Password will be deemed to have been authorized by you, unless you have previously notified National Life Group, in a timely manner, of the loss, theft or unauthorized use of these personal identifiers. If you become aware of the loss, theft or unauthorized use of your User ID and Password, you must notify National Life Group by phone or in writing (delivered via U.S. Mail, certified, return receipt requested) at the address below. Note, too, that if a customer authorizes a third party to access his/her account and/or our services, the customer agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold National Life Group and parties contracting with National Life Group not responsible for any liability, losses, damages and reasonable costs and expenses (including attorney fees) arising out of claims or suits by any such third parties based upon or relating to such access and use.

Neither National Life Group, any parties contracting with National Life Group, nor any of their directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, affiliates, information providers, licensors or other suppliers providing data, information or services, warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error free.

National Life Group or any party contracting with National Life Group does not warranty the results that may be obtained from the use of the Service, or as to the timeliness, sequence, accuracy, completeness, reliability or content of any information, data, service or transaction provided through the Service, or with respect to any software provided for use in accessing the Service. You acknowledge and agree that National Life may restrict, suspend or terminate your access to, and use of, all or any part of the Service at any time in National Life’s absolute discretion and without prior notice or liability.

Your Responsibility

Customers are responsible for all transactions authorized with their User ID and Password. If a customer permits another person(s) to use the Service or their ID or Password, or if the customer’s ID or Password is used by an unauthorized third party as a result of the customer’s negligence, the customer is responsible for any resulting transactions. By usage of the Service a customer accepts full responsibility for the monitoring of their Account(s).

Customers will notify National Life Group by phone or in writing (delivered via U.S. Mail, certified, return receipt requested) at the address listed below, if he/she becomes aware of any of the following:

  • He/She does not receive an accurate written confirmation of a transaction, or
  • He/She receives confirmation of a transaction that he/she did not initiate.

If a customer does not notify National Life Group within 5 business days after any of the above listed circumstances occur, National Life Group is not responsible or liable for any claims arising from said circumstances. If a customer becomes aware of inaccurate information in his/her policy(ies) and/or contracts or transaction history which is unrelated to any of the above listed circumstances, he/she is responsible for notifying National Life Group in a timely manner by phone or in writing (delivered via U.S. Mail, certified, return receipt requested) at the following address:

  • Policy or Contract Number(s )

National Life Group’s Responsibility

National Life Group is responsible for making information available relating to your life insurance policy(ies) and/or annuity contract(s) available to you electronically and/or completing the transactions you submit electronically in a timely manner, pursuant to properly entered and transmitted instructions.

National Life Group will send a written confirmation of any financial transaction that you authorize within three business days electronically or via First Class US mail.

National Life Group is not liable or responsible if:

  • A transaction cannot be initiated because of insufficient funds (irrespective of the size of the shortfall) in a customer's account, or if that account has not been established or has been closed;
  • A customer has not properly followed instructions on how to effect a transaction through the Service;
  • A customer has not given complete, correct and/or current instructions so that the transaction can be effected;
  • It reasonably believes that a transaction may be unauthorized and determines not to proceed with the requested transaction;
  • A customer's equipment and/or the software used were not working properly at the time the customer attempted to submit a transaction; or
  • Circumstances beyond our control prevent National Life Group from effecting a transaction, despite reasonable precautions that National Life Group has taken. Such circumstances include but are not limited to computer failure, telecommunication outages, postal strikes and other labor unrest, delays caused by payees, fires, floods, and other natural disasters.

Customers may not use e-mail or text messages to send personal or identifying information, such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, passwords, etc. National Life Group is not responsible for any loss or damage that results from interception by third parties of any information you send via e-mail or text message.

 

Business Days and Hours of Operation

National Life Group's business days are Monday through Friday except during holidays and emergency closings. Although Portal transactions will be processed only on business days, you can use the National Life Group Portal to reach National Life Group 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except during any periods when access is not available due to maintenance, support or other system activities.

National Life Group will use its best efforts to:

  • Process all transactions authorized via the Service with a current effective date if such request is received on a business day and between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM Eastern Time; and
  • Process all transactions with an effective date of the next such business day if such request is received after the above listed hours or on a non-business day.

National Life Group reserves the right to process transactions with an effective date which is within 36 hours (counting only such business days) of receipt of the related request.

National Life Group may, on a regular basis, perform maintenance on its equipment or systems. This maintenance may result in interrupted service or errors in the Service. National Life Group retains the right to change the scope of its services from time to time. To the extent permissible, National Life Group will provide prior notice of such interruptions and changes but does not guarantee that such notice will be provided.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

The material on the Site does not, and is not intended to, provide any financial, insurance, legal, accounting, tax or other professional advice, and should not be relied upon by you in that regard.
